Mapping With Legos

February 25, 2011

Lego Maps!!

This is a really creative and fun project from Samuel Granados, and as a kid who grew up with a room in our house that was dubbed “The Lego Room” due to the copious volumes of Legos contained within, I find these maps really cool…and remarkably effective at conveying the data considering he is basically using 8-bit. The piece is two-sided with one side plotting the emigrants of each region and the other the immigrants. I found this over at Information Aesthetics, which is a really fascinating weblog that looks at the hybrid of data and design. There is a huge groundswell of companies, blogs, statisticians, and designers that are diving into this field right now and I, frankly, find it really exciting. These people are always looking for new ways to convey data, not only efficiently but beautifully.  Go check it out. You won’t regret it.
